Zymar (gatifloxacin ophthalmic) is an antibiotic in a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones. Zymar (gatifloxacin ophthalmic) fights bacteria in the body. Gatifloxacin ophthalmic (for the eyes) is used to treat eye infections caused by bacteria.

You should not use this medication if you allergic to gatifloxacin

Uses:
Use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
You may need to use the eye drops every 2 hours for the first couple of days, and then every 4 hours for the rest of your treatment. Follow your doctor's instructions.

Zymar eye drops are usually used for a period of one week. On days 1 and 2, use one drop every 2 hours in the infected eye(s) while awake, up to 8 times a day. On days 3 to 7, use one drop 4 times a day while awake. You should space the doses evenly throughout the day.
Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Side effects:
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; slow heart rate, weak pulse, fainting; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
severe swelling, burning, redness, or discomfort in or around your eye;
eye pain, vision changes, increased sensitivity of your eyes to light;
signs of new infection, such as drainage, crusting, or oozing of your eyes or eyelids;
the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild.
